Don't The Search Engines Monitor This Themselves?
The search engines say that they have programs in place to monitor suspicious clicks, but these programs are FAR from perfect and are often not effective. The problem is that the search engines want to make money, and from what we have seen they often err on the side of charging you for clicks rather than not charging for clicks. In our opinion, they should be doing just the opposite they should give advertisers who pay them hundreds of millions of dollars per year the benefit of the doubt, and if a click is slightly suspicious they should not charge you.
Will I be charged for clicks if...
Someone clicks on my ad 5 times in 10 seconds?
You will probably be charged for 1 click.
Someone does a search for red widgets, clicks on my ad and then does a search for blue widgets and clicks on my ad - all within a minute or so.
You will probably be charged for both clicks.
Someone does a search and clicks on my ad once every day for 30 days straight, all from the same computer.
You will probably be charged for 30 clicks.
Someone does 5 different searches over the course of a day from the same computer, and clicks on my ad each time.
You will probably be charged 5 times.
Are you telling me that one single person on the same exact computer can click on my ad once per day for 365 days and I will probably get charged for 365 clicks?!!!!!
Yes, and if they searched more than once per day you will probably be charged for many more clicks than that. We think this is a fundamental flaw of the PPC companies and needs to be addressed.
Whoaah - I pay $5 per click. You are saying one person alone can cost me $1500 in a year?
Yes.
